Food pantry in Kolf serves hundreds

The lower level of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Kolf Sports Center was bustling Friday as 39,000 pounds of food was brought to be distributed to families in need.

Student athletes helped to fill bags and boxes with the food, and as the loads got heavier and heavier helped those who benefited from the mobile food pantry to carry them through the line and to their cars.

Friday's food distribution was the first part of a bigger effort to address a 69 percent poverty rate in the neighborhoods surrounding the campus. The statistic was found in U.S. Census data by the League of Women Voters and ...
