This has been another year of positive changes for our community and it has been a pleasure to be a part of it. Our downtown businesses can be proud of the updates and improvements they have made to their buildings. There is a definite change when you travel down Main Street. Our Community Development Authority (CDA) and the Business Improvement District (BID) have had the opportunity to work with many of the businesses giving assistance with grants. There will continue to be more improvements as we move onto the next block on the South side of Main Street. The Waupun Aquatic Center is well underway in its construction. We are still on schedule for opening this coming summer.
Last year at this time the final design had just been approved. The newest extension of our walking trail and boardwalk has been a huge success in the community and Dick Flynn, our Director of Public Works is working on the next phase of the trail, we just received another grant for the trail for over $100,000, and I'll give you more information on this grant in January. We are all looking forward to the new AmericInn that is underway on Shaler Drive; an additional 61 room hotel is needed in the community with all of the tournaments and events that have been taking place here. We look forward to continued development on the old Washington school land that the City owns. Dave Decker is working on additional rental units on Mayfair/Shaler. These units have been very popular for their space and the amenities provided within the units.
At years end I would like to thank our City Attorney, City Administrator, City, Utility, Library, Fire and Police Departments for providing this community with first class service. It is because of their dedication and commitment that we have a City we can all be proud of.
I will be out for the holidays for the next couple of weeks, returning in January. I wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year.
Until next year?
