After four consecutive years of steady progression, the Green Bay Packers' special teams unit took its first step backward under fifth-year coordinator Shawn Slocum.

In the Dallas Morning News' annual rankings, the Packers fell from 12th to 20th due in part to issues on the coverage units and the NFL's 30th-ranked kickoff return team that averaged 20.3 yards per return.
