The Detroit Lions have hired one of Vince Lombardiís grandsons as their offensive coordinator.

Joe Lombardi, who has been the New Orleans Saintsí quarterbacks coach since 2009, will join new Lions coach Jim Caldwellís staff, according to a report on ESPN.

Lombardi, 42, is the son of Vince Lombardi Jr. and grandson of the former Green Bay Packers coach. He was born in 1971, the year after his grandfather died.

"No matter how well I do, you're never going to match what he did and who he was and the impact he had," Joe Lombardi said in 2010 as the Saints prepared for Super Bowl XLIV.

After coaching in college for nine years, he joined the Atlanta Falcons as a defensive assistant in 2006. He joined the Saints in 2007 as an offensive assistant and was promoted to quarterbacks coach in 2009.
