Alex Van Pelt will be the Green Bay Packersí new quarterbacks coach, according to a report by Jason La Canfora of CBSsports.com.
Van Pelt, 43, had been considered the front-runner for the job since it opened last week, when Ben McAdoo left to become the New York Giantsí offensive coordinator.
The CBS report said new Cleveland Browns coach Mike Pettine, who was hired Thursday, was interested in hiring Van Pelt as his offensive coordinator, but that Van Pelt was staying with the Packers.
Van Pelt, who was the Packersí running backs coach the past two seasons, had a year left on his contract, so the Packers could block any move in the NFL short of him becoming a head coach.
The Packers have not announced the move and might be waiting until coach Mike McCarthy also hires a new running backs coach and a replacement for outside linebackers coach Kevin Greene, who resigned last week.
