A Shawano man was ordered to serve life in prison without chance of parole for the deaths of a Gillett woman and her brother in 2009.

Oconto County Circuit Court Judge Michael T. Judge said it appeared Daniel Schmidt carefully planned the murders of Kimberly Rose and Leonard Marsh, then told a series of lies to cover it up.

"Because the offenses in this case are so serious, are so heinous, are so horrific, for an individual to decide the only way to resolve his problems with an individual is to end their life, for a person to make that decision, I want to ensure that the public is protected," Judge said. ...
