The agent for fullback John Kuhn hasnít had any contract talks with the Green Bay Packers but is optimistic about his client re-signing with the team.

Kuhn, 31, will be an unrestricted free agent when the new league year starts March 11. His agent, Kevin Gold, hasnít started negotiations with the Packers but expects to speak with team vice president Russ Ball at the scouting combine in late February in Indianapolis.

ďI assume thereís interest on both sides, and (us) having him come back and hopefully they want him back,Ē Gold said Wednesday. ďItís a good fit and he likes it (in Green Bay), he lives there. Thatís definitely his priority, and I assume itís theirís, too.Ē

Kuhn just finished a three-year contract that averaged $2.5 million a season.

Considering Kuhnís age and the reduced emphasis on the fullback position in the NFL, he probably will be in line for a contract closer to the minimum salary for a player of his experience ($855,000) than the $2.35 million he made in salary and bonuses last season.

However, he was the Packersí best pass protector among their running backs, and as a member of the team for all eight of Mike McCarthyís seasons as coach, he knows the offensive scheme as well as any player on the team. When quarterback Aaron Rodgers missed seven-plus games because of a broken collarbone last season, Kuhn helped the backup quarterbacks with protection calls at the line of scrimmage.

ďIt shows his versatility and ability,Ē Gold said. ďI think they understand that, and he knows itís probably the best place for him. So hopefully we can get it worked out before March even rolls around.Ē
