A rosier outlook: Local businesses saw improvement last year, expect a steady 2014

While many businesses didn't see record-breaking sales in 2013, the varying degrees of improvement Marshfield companies experienced in the past year demonstrated that the local economy slowly is improving in accordance with economists' predictions.

Randy Cray, chief economist for the Central Wisconsin Economic Research Bureau, said lower unemployment and increased income and corporate tax revenue collected by the state are signs the economy improved in 2013.

"We would like to see more jobs than what have been created, but nonetheless, it looks like the number of jobs being created ...
