The state Senate voted 25-7 Tuesday in favor of a bill that would pave the way for a regional transit authority in the Fox Cities, but the bill faces a dead end in the Assembly.

Sen. Mike Ellis, R-Neenah, and Rep. Penny Bernard Schaber, D-Appleton, have pushed the bill that could solve the funding questions for Appleton-based Valley Transit, which lost federal funds after the metro area jumped in population in the 2010 census.

The bill would allow for the authority to raise the sales tax by 0.25 percent. ...
