In honor of Black History month, Marian University's Social Justice Committee will be hosting the "Black Holes: The Rhetoric of Silence in African American Literature" presentation from 12:20 to 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12 in the Stayer Center, room 217/218.

The speaker for the event is Dr. Justin Ponder, assistant professor of English at Marian University. Dr. Ponder's presentation explores the link between African American literature and liberation. Examining texts from ancient fables to contemporary novels, Dr. Ponder will show how these stories offer new ways of perceiving our world, while describing themes of literacy, writing and voice. Discussion will suggest how African American Literature models democratic, fair and just ways of being in society.

This event is free and open to the public.
