Monday is the first day NFL teams can extend franchise, or the rarely used transition, tags to unrestricted free agents. The two-week window ends March 3.

If the Green Bay Packers were to use the franchise designation, cornerback Sam Shields is the most likely target.

The NFL has not released tag values, but it's likely to be similar to last year when the tender for cornerbacks was $10.854 million.

Shields, 26, joined the Packers as an undrafted rookie in 2010. He led the team with four interceptions last season.
