The venture capital arm of an Internet giant now is part owner of a Wisconsin Rapids-based educational technology provider, the local company announced Wednesday.

Google Capital became a minority owner of Renaissance Learning Inc. after making a $40 million investment, a Renaissance Learning spokeswoman confirmed. Formed in 2013, Google Capital has invested in only two other companies - SurveyMonkey and Lending Club - making the investment with Renaissance its first in the education sector, according to a Renaissance news release.
