The Twelve Helping Hands, a group of elementary level Destination ImagiNation participants, were among the 11 Algoma DI teams who took part in practice performances Sunday at Algoma Elementary School. More than 50 area teams are expected to compete in the Bay Lake Regional Tournament Saturday at Sturgeon Bay High School.
Bay Lake Regional will host the Destination ImagiNation tournament starting at 8 a.m. Saturday at Sturgeon Bay High School, 1230 Michigan St.
Destination Imagination (DI) is a nonprofit, volunteer-led, cause-driven organization. The competition is meant to inspire and equip students to become the next generation of innovators and leaders. The event features challenges in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics; improvisation; visual arts; service learning; and early learning.
Doors open at 7 a.m. The top two teams in each challenge and grade level category at Sturgeon Bay will advance to the State Tournament April 12 at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The top three teams at state are eligible to advance to the Global Finals May 21-24 in Knoxville, Tenn.
The event is open to the public.
In case of inclement weather, the tournament will be held Sunday and the event will run one hour later. Local radio stations will announce any cancellations by 6:30 a.m.
