Robert Francois is an unrestricted free agent. but coming back from an Achilles tendon tear that could delay his signing until at least April and perhaps after the draft.

Francois, an inside linebacker and core special teams player for the Green Bay Packers the past four seasons, will be six months removed from surgery in early April and is on track to be fully healed at that time, according to his agent, Noel LaMontagne. Francois then can dedicate himself fully to regaining his pre-injury explosiveness.

LaMontagne said teams might begin expressing interest in signing his client then, but that Francois might be better off waiting untiil after the NFL draft in early May so he can identify teams that have the greatest need at inside linebacker.

The Packers are monitoring the 28-year-old Francois’ recovery but haven’t yet committed to offering him a contract.

“Obviously he loves the organization, he loves the Packers,” LaMontagne said. “But he’s also realistic. He knows he’s coming off a pretty significant injury and he needs to get healthy before anybody can fully assess what their interest level is.

“But he knows, based on how the recovery is going, he’ll be coming back at 100 percent. Medically, physically, otherwise, we haven’t gotten any indication that won’t be the case. He’s been proving people wrong his whole career, so this is just another step in that process for him.”
