Sell out. In any industry other than tourism those two words have a much different connotation. But here in Wisconsin's Event City, a "sell out" is music to our ears as it signifies good news for whatever event has reached maximum capacity.

One week from Saturday, the Experimental Aircraft Association will host one of the biggest sold out events of the year - the annual Hops & Props beer festival inside the EAA AirVenture Museum.

Now, it's not technically sold out just yet, but it will be. So hurry up and finish reading this column and then go and buy your tickets.

Billed as the "The Premier Event for Beer Connoisseurs" Hops & Props is truly living up to that high standard this year. Event coordinator Kelly Zanders said they worked closely with a master Cicerone in Chicago to help select the beers and breweries that would take part in the event. He suggested bringing in something new, different and something that normally isn't available in Wisconsin - Surly Brewing Company.

In "beer nerd" circles the Minnesota-based brewery produces some of the most highly rated and sought after beers. They'll team up with Becket's Restaurant for a special VIP five-course meal paired with Surly beers. But if you weren't lucky enough to score a VIP dinner ticket, don't worry as Surly (plus nearly 100 other breweries) and will be serving up some of their best beverages including: Furious, Coffee Bender, Hell and their limited annual release Darkness. Unlimited samples of these beers are worth the $75 admission alone, but the event will also feature samples of nearly 300 additional beers, wines and specialty sodas. (For a complete list of breweries and samples available go to www.Visit Oshkosh.com and find the Hops & Props calendar listing).

The night also includes food from the Machine Shed, live music from Unity, Sly Joe and the Smooth Operators, and Frogwater. Hops & Props runs from 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, March 8. Special rates and a shuttle to and from the event are available through four Oshkosh hotels: Cobblestone Inn & Suites, Hilton Garden Inn, Holiday Inn Express and the Best Western Premier Waterfront Hotel. Get your tickets online at www.EAA.org/ hops&props or call (920) 426-6510.

All proceeds from Hops & Props support other community events at EAA like the annual Family Flight Fest, March 1 and 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The two-day event includes a variety of fun, hands-on activities that will educated and spark curiosity in flight including flight simulators, scavenger hunts, movies, RC flying and model making demonstrations, and more. Admission is $12.50 for adults, $10.50 for senior citizens and $9.50 for students. Visit www.AirVenture Museum.org for complete details.

This weekend also marks the return of the fifth annual Greater Fox Valley Floral Show, Rooms of Blooms, at the Paine Art Center & Gardens. The interiors of the Paine mansion will be bursting with unique floral arrangements and creations. The show runs Feb. 27 to March 2 and again March 6 to 9. They are open from 121 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $11 for adults, $7 for youth with a $2 discount from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Admission is free for Paine members.

It's the first Saturday in March and that means the Oshkosh Saturday Farmers Market is in full swing inside Washington Hall from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. In the evening head to downtown for our monthly Gallery Walk, 6 to 9 p.m., where dozens of artists will display their creative talents at our galleries and businesses.

Finally, on Saturday, one young woman will be crowned Miss Oshkosh 2014 at the annual scholarship competition inside the Alberta Kimball Auditorium, 375 N. Eagle St. Competition starts at 7:30 p.m.
