Iozzo's Italian Restaurant celebrated more than an anniversary Feb. 19 when it marked its 35th year as a family-run business - it was a tribute to survival.

Owner Georgie Iozzo, 53, can't say the restaurant is thriving in the wake of a significant setback dealt by the Camp Phillips road reconstruction project in 2011. The project essentially "blocked off" the restaurant from customers between June and late fall, she said. Only the most motivated of diners would negotiate the detour required to get to the eatery at the intersection of Camp Phillips Road and Northwestern Avenue.
