Save Peter Pan nursery school. I was shocked and very concerned when I heard the sad news that Peter Pan Nursery School would be closing their doors this June after 40 years of providing quality preschool programs to children in our community. The Oshkosh School Board has decided to close a number of 4K sites in the community that are too small to have a "stand alone" director to run their programs.
In the past, Mrs. Roen has acted as director and lead teacher and has done an exceptional job wearing both hats at Peter Pan Nursery School. Under her direction, Peter Pan has housed a number of early learning programs through the years including an early childhood site where children with special needs could attend a supported classroom with their typically developing peers, a preschool program that has provided 3 year olds with the opportunity to learn in a structured environment learning self-help and social skills important precursors to kindergarten and the 4K program that has prepared children for full day Kindergarten curriculum.
With the potential closure of the 4K program at Peter Pan Nursery School, Peter Pan would no longer be able to afford to run their preschool program and would have to close their doors inevitably. It was brought to my attention that the only way Peter Pan Preschool could remain open would be if someone was able to volunteer their expertise 10 hours a week for little pay and be available during the 4K program to be an onsite director for the 4K program or if a generous donation from the community was made to offset the costs of running the preschool. Many children and families have benefited from the quality early learning programs provided by Peter Pan Nursery School over the years.
