Central Wisconsin retailers' stockrooms are stacked with bicycles, lawnmowers, greenhouses and raised-bed garden kits, all just waiting for Mother Nature to loosen her icy grip on the state.

Cities across Wisconsin on Monday set cold-weather records and in Wausau, the winter of 2013-14 will go down as the snowiest and second-coldest since meteorologists began keeping records in 1895. At least in the short term, the deep freeze will continue with more snow expected to fall today.

But as the days grow longer and the sun gets higher in the sky, retailers and residents are growing ...
