All signs still point toward cornerback Sam Shields hitting the free-agent market Saturday.

Shields’ camp leaked word earlier this week that negotiations with the Packers had stalled and that he’ll be testing free agency.

Today, Shields sent out a cryptic tweet that could have been interpreted as talks picking up with the Packers—“I feel a big blessing coming,” the tweet said. But when asked if the tweet meant Shields was getting close a contract with the Packers, a source close to Shields said “no signing is imminent.”

Shields and the other free agents in the NFL can begin talking to other teams at 11 a.m. CT Saturday, though they can’t sign with a new team until 3 p.m. Tuesday. Shields' tweet might have been suggesting that he's expecting to receive strong offers starting tomorrow.
