Update: UWO instituting changes to public alert system after shooting

University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh officials are reviewing their procedures for alerting students to campus safety issues it took a couple of hours to notify students that a man had fired a gun late Saturday evening at Reeve Memorial Union.

Addressing public criticism about the delay at a news conference this morning, University Police Chief Joseph LeMire said both his department and the university made changes to the system since the incident.

"We certainly want to send them quicker," LeMire said of the university-wide alert system, which notified all students by email early Sunday ...
