A new push for mixed-use downtown developments

The Wisconsin River was central to the founding of Wausau and has been an essential site of commerce through its entire history. Now we are in the midst of a new push to transform the riverfront in a way that will make it, again, one of the city's most important economic assets.

On Tuesday, Wausau's Finance Committee heard plans for $4.5 million in riverfront improvements. The great majority of the plan, all except $1.36 million, would be funded by grants or outside sources.

The larger project of restoring the city's riverfront as a place to live, shop and play has been going on for decades, but ...
