City Notes: Expect crowd to sound off on Fremont Street bicycle lanes

Expect a charged-up crowd to lobby against new bike lanes on Fremont Street as the plan gets its first committee vote Tuesday night at City Hall.

City engineers want to install 5- and 6-foot lanes from Oneida Street to Telulah Avenue and remove some parking on the Fremont Street route.

"We're trying to increase the number of commuters that bicycle to work," said Eric Lom, the city's traffic engineer, pointing out that the city is 16 miles into its plan with six more on the way this year. ...
