The Russian incursion into the Crimea has many Republican politicians and right-wing pundits screaming at President Barack Obama for being weak and indecisive.
What do they want him to do? Go to war with Russia, wherein there are no American interests at stake?
Moreover, the recently deposed Ukrainian president was elected by a democratic election. The leading political party in Ukraine is the Svoboda Party, which is ultra-nationalistic, anti-Semitic and quite proud of its ideological affinity to Hitlerism.
Part of Ukraine has a Russian population which in the east and includes Crimea. That population wants to be a part of Russia. What moral right does the United States have for interfering in Russian-Ukrainian affairs? The United States has never tolerated foreign interventions in its military interventions in Latin America.
For more information on the neo-Nazi complexion of the Ukrainian insurgency, a reading of Max Blumenthal's Feb. 24 Daily Kos article, "Is the U.S. Backing Neo-Nazis in Ukraine?" is an absolute necessity.
The mainstream nedia will never inform the public on the truth of military adventureism that the political establishment is intent on pursuing. Our experience in Vietnam and Iraq should at least have taught us that much.
Let us remember the wisdom of then-Secretary of State John Quincy Adams when stated on July 4, 1821:
"Wherever the standard of freedom and independence has been or shall be unfurled, there will he heart, her benedictions and her prayers be. But she goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She is the champion and vindicator only of her own."
