Packers bring versatile Neal back on 2-year deal

At the NFL scouting combine, coach Mike McCarthy said the Green Bay Packers will upgrade their defense in 2014 in part by better utilizing the more versatile front-seven players.

On Wednesday, the Packers re-signed one of those players, Mike Neal, to a two-year contract, an NFL source confirmed. No other terms were available.

Neal, 26, played his first three seasons as a defensive lineman, then last year dropped from around 290 pounds to the 270 range and moved to outside linebacker, where he took a huge majority of his 751 snaps. At the combine, McCarthy said Neal was "exactly" the kind of ...
