Guest Commentary: Manitowoc Chiefs' mascot teaches youth to be insensitive

I am writing in regards to the Manitowoc Chiefs football team.

I would like to start by saying first and foremost that I can appreciate what this organization has been doing for the youth of Manitowoc over the past several decades. However, I believe that it is horribly insensitive that an entire population of indigenous people at their disposal for the sake of having a "mascot."

As a student of the University of Wisconsin La Crosse, with a minor in ethnic and racial studies, I am absolutely appalled that the place I am proud to call my hometown is using Native Americans as a mascot-for a football ...
