Wausau, Everest Metro, Humane Society reach deal on stray cats

The city will sign a contract with the Humane Society of Marathon County for the impoundment of stray cats and other non-dog animals, ending a three-month impasse, the Wausau City Council decided last week.

The contract, which expires Jan. 1, is shared with the village of Weston, town of Weston and city of Schofield, which all fall under the Everest Metro Police Department.

The Humane Society will house up to 150 stray cats and other animals for $32,400, or about $200 each. If more than 150 cats come in from the four municipalities, the shelter will charge the city $220 for each. ...
