Braxton Potrykus and Tyler Schmidt gave their teams leadership and their fans plenty to cheer about.

Potrykus became the first Wittenberg-Birnamwood wrestler to win an individual state championship since 1966 and was just the fifth in program history, while Schmidt won his second straight Division 1 220-pound title, making him Merrill's third two-time champ. Both wrestlers were also instrumental in helping their team reached the WIAA state team tournament as well.

For their outstanding seasons on the mat, Potrykus and Schmidt have been named Gannett Central Wisconsin Media ...
