Half of sexually active young people will get a sexually transmitted disease, or STD, by age 25. Rates of chlamydia and gonorrhea have risen dramatically in recent years. Additionally, more cases of Hepatitis C are being seen.

The Healthy People Wood County Healthy Growth and Development Team is working through many different venues to reduce rising STD rates in Wood County. On Tuesday, members of the Healthy Growth and Development team will host an STD testing event at Mid-State Technical College in Grand Rapids. The same event will be held Thursday at University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County. Both events will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A wealth of information, free items, STD testing information, free HIV and Hepatitis C testing, HPV vaccinations for select populations and even a drawing for an iPod Shuffle will be available.

Anyone in the Wood County area is welcome to attend . For more information, call 715-421-8911.
