It's been a rough winter for all creatures great and small, but Door County animals have a new friend ready to speak on their behalf.

Bridget K. Isaksen was appointed as an additional humane officer by the Door County Board effective Jan. 1. Isaksen is now training with Dr. Deb Johnson, a veterinarian who has been doing the job for the past 19 years.

Johnson, who has a mobile veterinary practice, asked the county to start looking for help so she could retire at some point. Johnson would eventually work as Isaksen's backup and be available for consultation. ...
