Churches getting ready for Holy Week

The last Wednesday Lenten service will be at The Meadows at Scand this week. Meet at 6:45 p.m. for a hymn sing, 7 p.m. for the service. Good to see some Ephraimites who now live at The Meadows: Betty Vail, Jo and Cliff Darken, and moved in just last week, Don and Loraine Brink! Betty says she'll spend time in Ephraim this summer, though. She misses her Ephraim friends.

The following week will be Holy Week, with services held at 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday at Sister Bay Moravian (April 14-17) and Good Friday services there at 2 p.m. (April 18). The sunrise service at Ephraim Moravian on Easter morning will be at 7 a.m., not 6 a.m., so you can sleep in a little. Breakfast follows. Then the regular Easter service at 10 a.m.

Personal notes

? Congratulations to Jenny Walker, Ephraim Postmaster Pam Abts' daughter. She owns Cupcake Heaven in Sister Bay. She won the 2014 Rotary Club of Door County's Ethics in Business Individual Award on March 27. Very cool.

? Sorry to hear that Dr. Art Huntley died recently. Condolences to wife Ann Abbott and family. Dr. Huntley was an accomplished psychiatrist and very active in his Philadelphia community for over 50 years. A memorial service was held March 22 in Pennsylvania.

? Sorry for the error last week on the Recycling Day phone number - as I often do, I transposed figures! It's the ReStore, (920) 743-2869. The date in Sturgeon Bay is April 22, and you can get rid of all your electronics and water-based paint, glasses, etc. Call to see specifically ask what they will take before you haul it down there.

Concert

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship will host music by Beth Kille at 7 p.m. today. There is an admission of $10, which includes a reception after the show.

Beth Kille plays rock, country, folk and blues and is an award-winning artist from Madison. She has won awards from the Nashville Songwriters Association for her song writing and has a home studio where she records, mixes and produces albums for first-time recording artists.

For more information, call (920) 854-7559.

Spring hike

Next Saturday, April 12, you might actually be able to see the ground again as you join hike leaders from the Door County Land Trust to see first-hand the land restoration that has been taking place at the Oak Road Nature Preserve.

It's a perfect wetland habitat for birds and just two miles north of Carlsville. The hike is 10 a.m. to noon. Call for more details and the directions to join the group: (920) 746-1359 (that number is right!).

Milestones

Birthdays include Nancy Burlend (April 6), Andy Dukehart (April 8), Jim Rutter and Susie Zielke (April 9), Marc Paulson, Tom Lundstedt, Carrie Reshane and Slade Martin (all on April 10), Brian Flood, Kristine Kordon, Karen McMurtry (all April 11). Betty and Bob Anderson celebrate their wedding anniversary on April 11. Then Amanda Carlson's birthday on April 12, and Ryan Sherman's on April 13!
