On the state Assembly's last day in session, the Republican majority took the shameful step of eliminating weekend voting as an option for Wisconsinites. The bill was previously adopted by the Senate and subsequently signed by the governor in secret with few revisions.
Taken in isolation, this unnecessary attempt to reduce voter turnout would be offensive enough, but this bill was not passed in a vacuum. It was the latest in a long line of attempts to devalue democracy and suppress voter participation.
