Menasha residents applaud marijuana byproduct bill

Menasha native Matt Figi, who lives north of Colorado Springs, tends to plants at the Stanley brothers business, one of Colorado's largest marijuana growers and dispensary owners who crossbreed the high CBD/low THC strain. Figi is the father of Charlotte, age 7, who has benefitted from cannabidiol oil since age 5, for Dravet Syndrome, a rare, severe form of epilepsy not controlled by medication. Cannabidiol (CBD) is not medical marijuana and is administered under the care of a physician.

When the state Senate voted this week to legalize the use of a marijuana byproduct to help relieve seizures in children, it was welcome news to Menasha's Steve Figi.

Figi and his wife, Su, have a granddaughter, Charlotte "Charlie" Figi, 7, who has been using cannabidiol oil since age 5 to treat Dravet Syndrome, a rare, severe form of epilepsy that medicine can't control.

Charlie's story gained national exposure in the 2013 CNN documentary "Weed." ...
