Village officials could decide whether to follow Wausau's lead in enacting an ordinance banning cellphone use while driving. But they want to hear from taxpayers first.

The Weston Village Board voted 5-2 Monday night to place an advisory referendum on the November ballot asking voters whether they think the ban is a good idea.

"That way it gives them input into what happens," said board member Fred Schuster, chairman of the Community Life & Public Safety Committee, the panel that recommended the board seek a vote from residents. ...
