Robocalls are irritating as hangnails and hemorrhoids. Presently one can stop telemarketer advertising by notifying the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture and the Federal Trade Commission and be put on a do-not-call list for two years. Exempt from the list are robocalls made by political parties, support groups and individual politicians.
Our legislature is presently considering making the do-not-call lists permanent, merging the State and Federal lists and including political robocalls.
When you are relaxing at home, watching your favorite TV program, and are interrupted by a political robocall I suggest you hang up, call the district telephone number of your State Senator or Representative and shout "Robocall". If you get more than one call a day respond at the most inconvenient time.
Most robocalls are filled with political trash talk and distortion. They are an insult to informed voters.
