It took a month, but the Green Bay Packers finally assigned Julius Peppers a number.

The team announced Monday morning on its website that Peppers, an All-Pro pass rusher who was signed March 15, will wear No. 56.

Peppers will play what coach Mike McCarthy calls an elephant position in which he will line up as either an outside linebacker, defensive end or defensive tackle in Dom Capers' scheme. ...
