Rain, cold slow growing season in central Wisconsin

The wet, cold spring is delaying the planting season throughout central Wisconsin.

During most spring seasons, planting would have started by now, followed by plans to make hay, local farmers said. But the brutal winter followed by an unusually cold and damp spring has central Wisconsin farmers frustrated and concerned.

"It's not critical. Things need to dry out. We haven't missed out on any growing weather yet," said Darrell Reigel, a rural Marshfield farmer. He added if the weather isn't better by the middle of May, the season will become more questionable. ...
