Steadily rising temperatures, peeks of sunshine, and rain are sure signs of spring. Area plants lovers and gardeners are welcomed to the Fond du Lac County Master Gardeners Annual Plant Sale set for noon to 7 p.m. Friday, May 16, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 17, inside the Cow Palace at the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds, 17th & Martin Ave. Admission is free.

Gardening enthusiasts are known to line up an hour before the doors open, eager to stock up on their favorite annuals and perennials. This year shoppers can look forward to selecting from a nice variety of annuals (including geraniums and cannas) and vegetables. Popular perennials like cone flowers and black-eyed susans will be in plentiful supply, along with specialty perennials like hostas, coral bells and lamium.

Perennials are grown by members of the Master Gardener Association so shoppers can be assured of their hardiness. Shoppers are able to drive into the Cow Palace to pick up their purchases.

For those who focus their gardening efforts on the vegetable plot, Master Gardener volunteers will be on hand to point out their favorite varieties of tomatoes, peppers, and other vegetables. There will even be a sections dedicated to horticulture questions, plant identification, and garden décor. Cash and personal checks are accepted.

Proceeds of the sale go to support the many programs of the Master Gardener volunteers, including the UW-Extension Horticulture Helpline, JR Master Gardener Program, "Day In the Garden," Fond du Lac School gardens, UW-Campus gardens, and the restored prairie on the UW Campus, Fond du Lac County Veterans Park, Lamartine Veterans Memorial, Free Spirit Gardens and many community projects around the county.
