Packers coach Mike McCarthy offered his thoughts on the team's 2014 draft:

*Definitely gives us a lot of competition at receiver. I don't get caught up worrying about how each position shakes out. It's how the draft fell. Receiver obviously has a lot more competition.

*I don't think there's a team in the league that doesn't feel better about football team.
Our offseason program off to excellent start. Can see maturity of first-year players. Still in process of adding new members to our team. We definitely got better last few days.

*Clinton-Dix being drafted has lot to do about how we feel about him as football player. How Ha Ha is utilized will be determined when he gets here.

*It's nice to say it's about time we drafted a Badger. It's great. I just want Abbrederis to be treated like anybody else.

*Davante Adams is one of better interviews I had. Tape speaks for itself.

*We have consistently done job of making sure receivers are natural catchers.

*It's good to finally draft center who has actually played the position before. I view Corey Linsley as center.

*We're going to be a better defense. You can write that in big letters. Our defensive staff has been diligent in preparing. We have opportunity to be better. Addition of free agents. Let's not forget free agent market still going on.

*Rookies will travel Sunday and Monday, rookie minicamp Friday-Saturday. We'll integrate draft class with free agents.

*I feel very good about both sides of ball as far as big guys. You can't have enough big guys. I like Thornton's energy, being able to play 1 or 3 technique.

*TE Richard Rodgers very productive, very natural, understands game. Things we can improve on. How he fits us, I think he fits very well. He's going to have some learning to do.

*I see Bradford playing outside.

*Finley and Jolly, I'm hoping they are healthy, we're watching their health situation, we'll see what happens.

*It's important for Clinton-Dix to compete for position. He's shown he can play 3 downs at Alabama.

*My conversations during draft is a lot about fit. I look at draft board a lot like game plan. This is time to trust board. Variance in boards across league might have been tighter.

*We're anxious to get started and get rookies in here. We'll have Thursday night meeting with rookies. Looking forward to that. We're only going to practice on Friday and Saturday. It will be a little different than in prior years.

*Abbrederis definitely will be in competition for return man.

*Our numbers are good at ILB coming into this time of year. Free agency still going on. Numbers you try to hit at each position. Maybe will add a couple players there.

*There were some QBs we felt were intriguing. QB room right now is excellent. Aaron, Matt and Scott,we've been able to do some QB school specific the last week. There's some things we can really help Scott with. Scott is very committed.
