Walmart is showing little interest in the city's proposal for configuring a proposed downtown retail superstore into a two-story structure to conserve land.

In a prepared statement, Walmart spokeswoman Delia Garcia wrote that the company's one-story concept is "the best opportunity to provide our customers a successful, convenient location for one-stop shopping."

Mayor Jim Schmitt, who opposes the Walmart proposal, suggested a two-story concept that would allow for a mixture of developments on the Larsen Green site in the Broadway shopping ...
