Checkered past doesn't deter Packers from giving TE Lyerla a look

No player in this year's NFL draft had his status undermined more by off-the-field problems than former Oregon tight end Colt Lyerla.

Lyerla's physical talent and big-play flashes at Oregon suggested he could be at least a second-round pick in this year's draft. But off-field problems, which included leaving the Oregon team in October and shortly thereafter being arrested for possession of cocaine, left him undrafted.

But if not being selected was only a minor surprise considering Lyerla's off-field issues, the ultimate gauge of just how big a personal risk NFL teams collectively viewed ...
