Packers won't extend McCarthy's contract before Thompson's

A contract extension for Packers coach Mike McCarthy won't come before that of general manager Ted Thompson, team President Mark Murphy told NFL Network at the league's spring meetings Tuesday.

That's not a total shock: It's Murphy's call on the general manager and president of football operations, who then has say over the head coach. Both Thompson and McCarthy have two years left on the five-year extensions they signed after the 2011 season.
