In honor of Older Americans Month in May, the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Portage County's Senior Center and RSVP programs sponsored an essay contest for Portage County sixth-graders. Participating students wrote an essay on "My Favorite Grandparent" or "My Favorite Older Adult."

The contest was an opportunity to increase intergenerational understanding and respect. A group of older volunteers judged the submissions on: the strong attachment between old and young, originality, organization, cohesion, sixth-grade level work, grammar and spelling. The ...
