What looked like a routine fly ball, which had the coach heading to the dugout, turned into what would be the pivotal play in Spencer's 1994 state baseball championship game of 1994.

Trailing 4-2 after three innings, the Rockets loaded the bases in the top of the fourth. Senior Shawn Freeman lofted a routine fly ball into right field. The right fielder came in like he had a bead on the ball.

What happened next takes us beyond the world of disbelief. What the fielder was looking for in the hazy evening was nowhere near him. It landed well behind him, near the warning track. ...
