The Sturgeon Bay Skatepark Initiative has invited the public and supporters to a formal groundbreaking at 4 p.m. Monday at the skate park site, Spruce Street and Green Bay Road.

According to Matt Dixner Young and Laurel Hauser, co-chairs of the Initiative, a core group of middle school and high school kids have been involved with this project since the very beginning.

"We'd like as many of them as possible to line up with shovels for this groundbreaking. It's quite an event," the co-chairs said in announcing the event. "They've worked really hard for this day!"

The group recently met its $400,000 fundraising goal.
