Packers OC Philbin talks Cowboys LB DeMarcus Ware

Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware is tied with New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora for second in the NFL with 8 sacks, trailing Packers linebacker Clay Matthews (9.5 sacks). Since being drafted as the No. 11 overall pick in 2005 out of Troy, Ware has been to four Pro Bowls and had fewer than 11 sacks in a season just once (8 as a rookie)  and finished 2008 with 20. The Packers and Cowboys have met during the regular season each of the past three years and Ware has accumulated four sacks in those games, including at least one in each meeting. Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin discussed the challenges Ware presents: "He's got very good balance. He can give you the speed rush, has enough power to push you back if you're not playing low enough or don't get a good enough punch. He's got some slipperiness to him. He can spin on you. He's kind of got the full complement of moves. He's got a little bit of everything." "So, he's a real challenge. A very, very good player" "They usually line him up away from the tight end in normal down and distances. Then they're not afraid to put him in a position if they feel they have a favorable matchup.  He's not totally amphibious, as we like to say. But, he moves around pretty good." "He's a handful. He's a guy you're concerned about when you're game-planning because he has that much ability. He's productive, plays hard. Probably on their side of the ball when they're looking to play the Green Bay Packers, they want to devise plans where they're not getting beat by our best players. So we spend time on -this guy can change the game. He'll keep you up at night, no question." Matthews has joked with rookie right tackle Bryan Bulaga about slowing Ware down. After all, Matthews is trying to stay the sacks leader. "I was giving him a hard time saying (Bulaga) has to hold him if (Ware) beats him," Matthews said. "Obviously, I'm sure, just like myself, Ware's looking at those sacks and he's right on my tail. So I told (Bulaga), just him if you need to. But it's all in fun and jest. "He's a fantastic athlete. I actually watch his film to better myself. I've got all the respect for him. Got to meet him at the Pro Bowl last year. I think he's a heck of a guy."
