Bigby activated from PUP list

The Green Bay Packers activated safety Atari Bigby from the physically unable to perform list Saturday. The team cut defensive end Michael Montgomery on Tuesday to open a spot on the 53-man roster. Bigby went on the PUP list after not being able to pass his conditioning test before the start of training camp. He had surgery on his left ankle on Aug. 5. Bigby’s return will be a welcomed one on a team that has been plagued by injuries all season. Safety Charlie Peprah moved into the starting lineup after Morgan Burnett (knee) was placed on injured reserve Oct. 7. Safety Derrick Martin (knee) was placed on injured reserve on Oct. 13. Defensive end Mike Neal (shoulder), linebacker Brad Jones (shoulder), linebacker Nick Barnett (wrist), and linebacker Brady Poppinga (knee) are also on injured reserve. Bigby is now available to be on the 45-man active roster for Sunday night’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. Known for his aggressive, hard-hitting style, Bigby started 33 games during the last three seasons. The offseason wasn’t a positive one for Bigby, who declined to sign his restricted free agent tender in hopes of negotiating a long-term deal. He skipped all voluntary organized team activity practices and mandatory minicamp. The tender he eventually signed was $59,500 less than the $1.759 he was originally offered. The Packers did not activate cornerback Al Harris from the PUP list. Harris had season-ending knee surgery in 2009. The team has until Monday to activate, cut or place the remaining PUP players on injured reserve. Rookie running back James Starks (hamstring) and Harris are the only two left on the list.
