Packers get 5 in Pro Bowl but not Rodgers

The Packers landed five players on the initial Pro Bowl list, though quarterback Aaron Rodgers notably was not among them. Three of the five made it as starters: outside linebacker Clay Matthews, cornerback Charles Woodson and safety Nick Collins. The others are left tackle Chad Clifton and receiver Greg Jennings. Rodgers was chosen as a first-alternate. The three quarterbacks on the NFC roster for now are Philadelphia’s Michael Vick, who is the starter, and New Orleans’ Drew Brees and Atlanta’s Matt Ryan. The last time the Packers had five Pro Bowlers was 2007, though their total could go up this year after injured players and those participating in the Super Bowl drop out. The Packers’ other first alternate was cornerback Tramon Williams. They also had four other lower alternates, though the team did not disclose the level of alternate: nose tackle B.J. Raji, guard Josh Sitton, linebacker A.J. Hawk and receiver Donald Driver. This will be Woodson’s seventh Pro Bowl in his 13-year NFL career. Collins made his third straight Pro Bowl and Matthews’ his second straight. Clifton has been to one other Pro Bowl, in 2007. Jennings was chosen for the first time.
