Former Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Cullen Jenkins was released by the Philadelphia Eagles today.

Would the Packers, who have some holes to fill on their line, be interested in bringing Jenkins back?

Never say never in the NFL, but donít count on it.

Packers general manager Ted Thompson doesnít have a reputation for signing 32-year-old players. And if Thompson thought Jenkins was past his prime two years ago when he allowed him to walk away in free agency, why would he be interested in him now?

The Packers could use another defensive lineman, with Jerel Worthy not expected to be ready for training camp due to a knee injury.

But based on Thompson's track record, it would seem far more likely that the Packers would find someone younger to bolster their defensive line.

Jenkins was part of the Packersí Super Bowl championship team in 2010 and his presence was missed the past two seasons. But the Packers already have 33-year-old Ryan Pickett on their defensive line, so adding another player long in the tooth would be a stretch for Thompson.

Itís true the Packers signed some veteran defensive linemen retreads last offseason, including Daniel Muir, Phillip Merling and Anthony Hargrove. But at the time they were signed, Muir and Hargrove were 28 and Merling 26. Jenkins seems ancient by comparison at 32.

Plus, Muir and Hargrove never found their way on the roster, and Merling lasted just four games with the team before he was cut.

The Packers are reportedly going to take a look at free agent defensive lineman Chris Canty this offseason, but at 30 heís almost two years younger than Jenkins.
