Chris Jacke's eight-year career with the Green Bay Packers ended the same way many successful and respected players part from their first NFL team: abruptly and without warm feelings.

But Jacke's is yet another instructive reminder that time often soothes wounds after an NFL career - witness the recent thawing between the Packers and Brett Favre, whose parting was as acrimonious and divisive as any in team history.

When Jacke left the Packers in free agency in the summer of 1997, his departure was punctuated by a Super Bowl ring ceremony storm that was the biggest news of the team's offseason. ...
