Mock ... yeah ...

The end of the week means it's time to check in on what the national folks have to say about the Packers' pick at No. 30 in next month's NFL draft.

Any of these possibilities turn you guys on?

* Antoine Cason, CB, Arizona. CBS Sports' Clark Judge says: "Charles Woodson and Al Harris are getting old." CBS Sports' Pete Prisco says: "Their corners are getting up in years, so it would be wise to bring a young one into the group. Cason can be a nickel corner as a rookie."

* Kenny Phillips, S, Miami. Scouts, Inc.'s Todd McShay says: "The Packers would rather draft a cornerback, but they would settle for the top safety prospect in this year's weak crop. Phillips has the natural athleticism and can be a powerful hitter for his size. However, he needs good coaching to change his inconsistent ways." Sports Illustrated's Don Banks says: "If there's a cornerback (Penn State's Justin King?) or an offensive tackle (USC's Sam Baker?) that the Packers have a conviction about, those are the positions that would get the need-pick designation. Otherwise, Green Bay can take a higher-rated player who has fallen to the bottom of the round due to circumstances. Phillips would seem to fit that description, and he could provide Green Bay with some competition for free safety Nick Collins."

* Jerod Mayo, LB, Tennessee. NFL.com's Vic Carucci says: "The Packers are likely to use this pick to address the team's future rather than trying to fill an immediate need. They could easily go with an offensive tackle if a good one happens to fall this far. Linebacker and cornerback are also possibilities."

* Brandon Flowers, CB, Virginia Tech. The Sports Xchange's Rob Rang says: "With Al Harris and Charles Woodson each getting a little long in the tooth and depth behind them a concern, the Packers would be wise to look for some young talent to groom. Flowers has the instincts and burst to handle Green Bay's physical man-to-man scheme, and is only available this late due to a stunningly poor workout at the Combine."

When are these guys going to realize that the Packers don't make their selection based on need (which all these mocks assume), they pick the best player. Thus, I think TT will take a DE, RB, WR or any other position that isn't a pressing need if it's the best player left on their board. Small possibility TT packages one of our 2's with our 1 to move up, but unless it's a bona fide stud, I can't see that happening. Having 3 picks in the first 61 could greatly improve the squad.

No way they pick Brandon Flowers. He is too short. Do the names Buckley and Carroll ring any bells?

They're not going to take LB, mark my words. Two studs already with no playing time left. It will probably OL, RB, TE or CB. Just as unlikely as a LB are D-line and QB for a first pick. S and WR would surprise me, but I'm going with one of the first four.

They'll take the best player available, or who they think that is. They don't draft for need unless they have players rated the same.

My vote is CB, Doubt they will look for a backup QB in the draft.
